Acid Should Run Batteries not Bodies

Wow. This chapter is fantastic!  Do you understand how your body pH can affect your health?  It is vital to understand this, especially in todays world of high protein diets.  Your body's pH (acidity or alkalinity) determines how healthy you are. Do you know your body pH?  Are you a 5 or 7? I don't want to go into the pH scale right now but it goes from 0-14 with 7 being neutral.  5 is acid and 8 is alkaline.  Most of the fluids in our body are meant to be alkaline, except for gastric juices.  Our body should be alkaline by design but it also produces acid as it processes energy from food.  The next source of acid in our body comes from acid ash foods such as protein.  Our body is constantly trying to alkalize so the more acid ash foods we eat the more the body has to work to neutralize the pH.  This neutralizing process is called buffering. The most important buffer for the acid in our body is sodium that comes from fresh fruits and vegetables.  The principal minerals that balance acid pH are sodium, calcium, magnesium and potassium.  Again your best source of these minerals is fresh fruits and vegetables.  Supplements of  inorganic forms of calcium, magnesium and potassium or table salt will not breakdown as easily as the organic forms in fresh fruits and veggies.  EAT FRESH FRUITS AND VEGGIES OFTEN!

HEALTH HINT: You need adequate amounts of vegetables and fruits to take care of the acid that is produced by meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, seeds, nuts and grains. p84

Strenuous exercise also produces acid in your body.  This can be a health hazard for those who exercise hard and long such as athletes and exercise fanatics.

When the body is already overly acid and more acid of any kind is added, regardless of the source, it can be a fatal addiction.  p87
Don't eat a meal with acid producing foods before a hard workout or training session. Don't pump up the protein, seeds, nuts and then go running. Its the two acid producing events combined that can be fatal.  Over the years we have heard of athletes dropping dead while jogging or playing basketball.  We are being fed a lie about how to use protein in our routine. Don't eat protein rich foods (or other acid forming foods such as grains, seeds and nuts) before exercise!
Mind your manners - never eat and run!
Before you go out to shovel snow, jog, workout, play tennis or go cross country skiing make sure you load up on alkalizing foods. Eat more fresh fruits and veggies. I cannot say it enough.

A simple and powerful way to alkalize your body is to drink AIM BarleyLife or BarleyLife Xtra with 18 added fruits and vegetables. One simple glass and you are alkalized!!

I am blogging my way through my studies. I am currently reading "Your Health Your Choice by Dr Ted Morter JR. M.A.  This book has great content but I recommend that you wait until the newer edition is released. The editing job was terrible. It is filled with petty errors that can make it annoying to read. The content is very good. I am enjoying this course from Trinity College of Natural Health.

Stepping Up To Better Health

In chapter 6 of Your Health Your Choice Dr. Morter outlines four steps for changing your lifestyle and eating habits. I would give a week or two for each step. If you begin to feel "off" just step back a little and go slower.

1st Step: increase the amount of cooked vegetables you eat daily.
2nd Step: reduce the amount of protein foods you eat daily. Have smaller servings of beef, poultry or fish.
3rd Step: cook the vegetables less and include one serving of raw vegetables or fruit each day.
4th Step: Reduce your intake of salt, coffee, tea, cola drinks, and processed foods

Shoot for a daily diet that looks like this:
45% cooked fruits and veggies
30% raw fruits and veggies
25% grains, nuts, seeds, meat, fish, or poultry

This is the ideal plan to follow (with exceptions such as Thanksgiving, holidays birthdays etc.)

It is important to make these changes SLOWLY allowing your body to properly adjust.

The nutrients from food are used to replenish and repair cells. Cells make up your body. Components of that food ultimately become you. The substances that go into your body become the materials of your body. You  can't change what your body is made of instantly without noticeable effect.
So far I have not tried this plan but I am going to try it in the new year.  I think the grains will be the hardest thing to reduce.  I love grains...and it shows.  Fresh fruits and veggies will be easy. I love them. I also love AIM's BarleyLife, Leaf Greens and the Garden Trio which make eating raw fruits and veggies easy. These concentrated powders are like eating several servings of live veggies in one glass. Feed your body premium fuel -- AIM products are premium fuel.  A well tuned body doesn't run well with inferior fuel.
