Acid Should Run Batteries not Bodies

Wow. This chapter is fantastic!  Do you understand how your body pH can affect your health?  It is vital to understand this, especially in todays world of high protein diets.  Your body's pH (acidity or alkalinity) determines how healthy you are. Do you know your body pH?  Are you a 5 or 7? I don't want to go into the pH scale right now but it goes from 0-14 with 7 being neutral.  5 is acid and 8 is alkaline.  Most of the fluids in our body are meant to be alkaline, except for gastric juices.  Our body should be alkaline by design but it also produces acid as it processes energy from food.  The next source of acid in our body comes from acid ash foods such as protein.  Our body is constantly trying to alkalize so the more acid ash foods we eat the more the body has to work to neutralize the pH.  This neutralizing process is called buffering. The most important buffer for the acid in our body is sodium that comes from fresh fruits and vegetables.  The principal minerals that balance acid pH are sodium, calcium, magnesium and potassium.  Again your best source of these minerals is fresh fruits and vegetables.  Supplements of  inorganic forms of calcium, magnesium and potassium or table salt will not breakdown as easily as the organic forms in fresh fruits and veggies.  EAT FRESH FRUITS AND VEGGIES OFTEN!

HEALTH HINT: You need adequate amounts of vegetables and fruits to take care of the acid that is produced by meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, seeds, nuts and grains. p84

Strenuous exercise also produces acid in your body.  This can be a health hazard for those who exercise hard and long such as athletes and exercise fanatics.

When the body is already overly acid and more acid of any kind is added, regardless of the source, it can be a fatal addiction.  p87
Don't eat a meal with acid producing foods before a hard workout or training session. Don't pump up the protein, seeds, nuts and then go running. Its the two acid producing events combined that can be fatal.  Over the years we have heard of athletes dropping dead while jogging or playing basketball.  We are being fed a lie about how to use protein in our routine. Don't eat protein rich foods (or other acid forming foods such as grains, seeds and nuts) before exercise!
Mind your manners - never eat and run!
Before you go out to shovel snow, jog, workout, play tennis or go cross country skiing make sure you load up on alkalizing foods. Eat more fresh fruits and veggies. I cannot say it enough.

A simple and powerful way to alkalize your body is to drink AIM BarleyLife or BarleyLife Xtra with 18 added fruits and vegetables. One simple glass and you are alkalized!!

I am blogging my way through my studies. I am currently reading "Your Health Your Choice by Dr Ted Morter JR. M.A.  This book has great content but I recommend that you wait until the newer edition is released. The editing job was terrible. It is filled with petty errors that can make it annoying to read. The content is very good. I am enjoying this course from Trinity College of Natural Health.

Stepping Up To Better Health

In chapter 6 of Your Health Your Choice Dr. Morter outlines four steps for changing your lifestyle and eating habits. I would give a week or two for each step. If you begin to feel "off" just step back a little and go slower.

1st Step: increase the amount of cooked vegetables you eat daily.
2nd Step: reduce the amount of protein foods you eat daily. Have smaller servings of beef, poultry or fish.
3rd Step: cook the vegetables less and include one serving of raw vegetables or fruit each day.
4th Step: Reduce your intake of salt, coffee, tea, cola drinks, and processed foods

Shoot for a daily diet that looks like this:
45% cooked fruits and veggies
30% raw fruits and veggies
25% grains, nuts, seeds, meat, fish, or poultry

This is the ideal plan to follow (with exceptions such as Thanksgiving, holidays birthdays etc.)

It is important to make these changes SLOWLY allowing your body to properly adjust.

The nutrients from food are used to replenish and repair cells. Cells make up your body. Components of that food ultimately become you. The substances that go into your body become the materials of your body. You  can't change what your body is made of instantly without noticeable effect.
So far I have not tried this plan but I am going to try it in the new year.  I think the grains will be the hardest thing to reduce.  I love grains...and it shows.  Fresh fruits and veggies will be easy. I love them. I also love AIM's BarleyLife, Leaf Greens and the Garden Trio which make eating raw fruits and veggies easy. These concentrated powders are like eating several servings of live veggies in one glass. Feed your body premium fuel -- AIM products are premium fuel. Visit my web site BetterWay2Health.com or AIMtogetHealthy.com and learn more about some great products.
A well tuned body doesn't run well with inferior fuel.

Sharing my studies

I have signed up for a course to become a Certified Health Specialist through Trinity School of Natural Health.  My first course is called Living Chemistry. I am so excited about this topic that I already want to blog about the book I am required to read. Your Health...Your Choice by  Dr M. Ted Morter, JR., MA has started off great.  I will share some quotes that I think can help anyone who will apply these concepts to their life.  "The human body will function well for decades longer than we give it credit for if we provide it the proper exercise, serenity, diet, and environment."  This is so true but it has been proven in the lives of the people of Hunza who live hidden away in the Himalayas.  These people give their body every opportunity for optimum health. Consider this:
"Your body will always do everything it can to continue to function. It recognizes things that aren't right: areas that aren't demonstrating the perfection with which the body was created. Given the opportunity, the body will immediately start to repair injured or impaired areas. The critical stipulation is that it must be given the opportunity."
We make ourselves sick by the choices we make in our lifestyle.  Do you give your body more opportunities for wellness or do you prevent those opportunities by eating fast foods, processed foods, or do you smoke or rely on medications for fever, inflammation, pain and discomfort?  Start to consider these symptoms as warning signals that something is wrong. Its a sign that changes are needed. I like the example that Dr Morter gives:
"If you wear shoes that are two sizes too small, you will definitely get the impression that there is something wrong with your feet. You can take aspirin to relieve the pain, but that is hardly a solution to the problem. Pain is a protest by your body that it is being subjected to abuse. The problem that causes the pain stems from the conditions under which you are requiring your body to function."
I love that example!  Think about it. This is about how crazy it is when we tend to take every kind of medications to take care of our ills but rarely give our body the opportunity to heal itself.

Consider the Healthy Cell Concept to better understand how your body functions.

Allergies? Cataracts? Parkinsons? Gout?.....What is Quercetin?

FABA BEAN LEAF:

Viscia faba is a member of the vetch family and has been cultivated for centuries. All parts of the faba plant are edible, and its seeds have been a staple of human nutrition. Many cultures have enjoyed the leaves of the faba plant, preparing them similarly to spinach.

As is the case with barley, when the faba plant begins its reproductive cycle, the young plant is at the peak of its nutrition. The nutritional composition of the leaf is different from the actual bean. During this early stage, the plant has an abundance of certain flavonoids. Quercetin, found in the faba bean, field pea, and spinach leaves, belongs to a group of plant pigments, flavonoids, that are partly responsible for the color of many fruits and vegetables. Unlike the synthetic form of quercetin dihydrate found in most supplements, the quercetin found in AIM LeafGreens occurs naturally in the leaves. This is important because synthetic quercetin dihydrate is not soluble in water. Thus consumption of this synthetic compound provides no meaningful benefits. The natural quercetin found in AIM LeafGreens is more bioavailable and absorbable.

The flavonoid quercetin offers a variety of potential therapeutic uses and benefits. Recent research studies have found quercetin to inhibit the production and release of histamine and other allergic and inflammatory substances. Histamine contributes to allergy symptoms such as runny noses, water eyes, and the swelling of soft tissue.

Quercetin can also inhibit the aggregation of platelets (abnormal clotting), fibrin, and other blood components that cause obstruction of blood vessels. This flavonoid binds selectively to platelet aggregation on blood vessel walls and restores the natural compound prostacylin, a vasodilator (opens blood vessels). In other words, quercetin has an anti-clotting function that may help improve circulation.

The anti-imflammatory properties of quercetin have been researched extensively. In one study, quercetin inhibited the inflammation in joints for those with arthritis. There have been several reports of people with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia who have increased their flavonoid intakes and experienced symptom relief.

Blindness or the loss of vision can result from untreated cataracts. Patients with cataracts have been found to have very high levels of hydrogen peroxide in the aqueous humor of their eye. In a recent study it was discovered that when quercetin enters the eye it binds with a naturally occurring enzyme in the lens. This newly formed metabolite protects the lens from opacification (becoming cloudy) and oxidative damage from high levels of hydrogen peroxide.

Quercetin is also involved in the reduced production of uric acid. This occurs when the flavonoid inhibits the xanthine oxidase, which can ease gout symptoms.

Dopamine is a hormone and neurotransmitter in the human body and L-Dopa, which is found in faba bean plants, is its chemical precursor. Both compounds are precursors to the well-known neurotransmitters, norepinephrine and epinephrine.

L-Dopa is helpful in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, because it can cross the blood-brain barrier whereas dopamine cannot. It is supplemented in the diet to increase libido and human growth hormone, and combines with tyrosine to produce the natural pigment in our skin, melanin.

AIM LeafGreens Ingredients: Barley leaf juice concentrate, faba bean leaf juice concentrate, field pea leaf juice concentrate, spinach leaf juice concentrate, rice lecithin, xanthan gum, natural citrus flavor.

Taste: Leaf Greens has an exceptional taste for a green juice powder. For those who want a really good tasting drink try this. Mix 1 teaspoon Leaf Greens to 1 tablespoon BarleyLife Xtra in about 8 ounces of cool water. For smaller drinks or for those who are just starting out try 1/4th teaspoon of Leaf Greens to 1 teaspoon of BarleyLife Xtra. It is delicious!

Use: Can be mixed in water or fruit juice (other than cranberry or prune juices). A teaspoon once or twice a day may be all it takes to experience benefits. Some may need to start with smaller amounts as too much initially can result in detox symptoms. Some mix a small amount each day with their BarleyLife (and Just Carrots and Redibeets) while others use in place of BarleyLife.

Just Carrots Chicken Salad

I am always trying to find ways to give my kids a boost of nutrition. Today I made chicken salad sandwiches with a twist. I had to keep it simple so they would eat it. I put one chicken breast, 1 tablespoon of mayonaise and 1/2 tablespoon of AIM Just Carrots powder into a food processor. The color is great and the flavor sweet and yummy. Spread on whole grain bread.

For adults I would add onions and red bell peppers.
Give it a try and let me know what you think.

carrot juiceJust Carrots

Just Carrots™ comes as freeze-dried crystals. The crystals are concentrated 25 times, which means that 25 pounds of raw carrots are used to make one pound of Just Carrots™ crystals. Just Carrots™ is 100 percent natural carrot juice crystals with only the fiber removed.

Just Carrots™ has one of the highest sources of natural beta carotene—up to 360* percent of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA). Drinking one glass of Just Carrots™ provides you with 18,000 to 20,000* IUs of beta carotene. In addition to beta carotene, Just Carrots™ contains vitamin C, calcium and potassium. Just Carrots™ is monitored for maximum nutrient levels. A single serving of Just Carrots™ crystals contains 40* calories; a single serving contains 25* calories.

When you eat raw carrots, only 1 percent of the beta carotene is absorbed by the body. Cooking breaks down the fibrous walls of carrots and increases the body’s absorption to 19 percent. Approximately 90 percent of the beta carotene in Just Carrots is absorbed.

The carrots used in Just Carrots™ are residue-free, ensuring that you will not be getting harmful toxins. A special process is used to produce Just Carrots™, which ensures that nutrients and enzymes remain active. This process does not use additives, sweeteners, fillers, or artificial ingredients to produce Just Carrots™. The caplets contain a small amount of inert binders to hold them together.

AIM Just Carrots comparison to Fresh Carrot Juice and a Raw carrot

AIM
Just Carrots vs Fresh Carrot Juice and a Raw Carrot
Just Carrots was developed by AIM to meet the needs of those who believe in the benefits of fresh carrot juice but whose lifestyle is not always conducive to juicing. The goal was to produce a product that provides the nutritional equal to fresh carrot juice, a goal we believe was accomplished. The following chart compares the most recent analyses of Just Carrots, fresh carrot juice, and one 7.5-inch raw carrot done by the three independent laboratories indicated above the columns. A comparison of the nutrient values reveals that a single 2-tablespoon serving of Just Carrots has a better nutritional profile than either of the other two.

ENZYMES. It is more than just nutrients that provide the benefits of carrot juice, it is also the live enzymes. Enzymes are very difficult to test and there is no test available for commercial use that determines all of the enzymes specific to carrots. However, through a qualitative technique known as the protein coagulation test, we believe that Just Carrots is a "live" food. In this test Just Carrots is mixed in a glass of fresh boiling water. Any live proteins in this mixture, including enzymes, will clump and drop to the bottom of the glass. During processing if a product has been heated above the temperature that deactivates enzymes, the product will not clump, but will dissolve into the solution. Think of a vegetable bouillon cube; when you drop it into hot water, it dissolves into a solution because it has been processed and cooked previously.

Home Enzyme Tests: I performed this simple test (described above) on BarleyLife, Just Carrots and RediBeets. All 3 powders clumped up with the clump ending up at the bottom of the glass. If you try this test, beware that (depending on the water temperature) both the Just Carrots and Redibeets will cause the water to overflow in a mostly full glass making a mess on the counter top. I also heated BarleyLife and Just Carrots in an oven until the temperature of the powder was at 145 degrees F and in a second test to 190 degrees F. Using the protein coagulation test the powders heated to 145 deg F showed a small amount of damage. The 190 deg heated powders were coagulated coming out of the oven. In conclusion this test showed clearly that each of the BarleyLife, Just Carrots and RediBeets products are enzymatically active. It also showed me that the enzymes are not quickly destroyed.

We should emphasize that the power lies in the nutritional synergy provided by carrot juice and not just in the raw nutritional facts.

Q: Is the Just Carrots processing temperature high enough to damage the enzymes?
ANS: No. In fact the temperature is actually lower than the BarleyLife processing temperature.

Q: Are there fewer enzymes in Just Carrots?
ANS: No, we do not believe so. Some limited testing showed more enzymes in Just Carrots than in fresh carrot juice.

Q: Why isn't the process that is used for BarleyLife also used for Just Carrots?
ANS: Carrot juice is different and the BarleyLife process doesn't work well for carrot juice. The BarleyLife process would require that 60% of the carrot powder product be maltodextrin.

Q: Just Carrots doesn't taste the same as fresh carrot juice, why not?
ANS: A choice had to be made between best taste and highest overall quality. AIM chose the highest quality. Although Just Carrots doesn't taste just like fresh carrot juice, the taste is quite acceptable to us. We mix it daily with BarleyLife and Redibeets and drink them all together.

JUICERS: Considering the fact that most juicers (around 80%) end up in a closet within 6 months of purchase, Just Carrots offers an excellent way of getting the benefits of fresh carrot juice without the hassle of juicing carrots.
